Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger point massage therapy consists of sustained, direct pressure to biomechanical stress points. These are localized, hypersensitive points in muscle bands that refer pain to other areas. Trigger point massage addresses and relieves myofascial pain. It has been used to help with low back pain, hip pain, neck and shoulder pain.

A Holistic Approach to Pain Management and an Ideal Complement to Chiropractic Care

Trigger Point Therapy in Conjunction with Chiropractic Care will hold adjustments longer, increase range of motion and alleviate chronic and acute pain

Pain and Trigger Points

Trigger points (myofascial pain) are small "knots" or areas of spasm within a muscle. They may be tender when touched or cause shortening of a muscle. The shortening may then cause limitation in the range of motion in the affected are or may even cause referred pain. The pain from these points may come and go or linger for months. These little spasms within the muscle are physical knots which are responsible for pain, soreness. or tightness that felt. These knots may produce a chronically sore and shortened muscle.

What Causes Trigger Points?

There are many causes: accidents, overuse, misuse, misalignments, disc and other spinal problems. The resulting inflammation, along with emotional stressors, cause the muscles to contract continuously, thereby constricting their own blood supply and a prolonged spasm or trigger point ensues.

How Does it Work?

Trigger Point Therapy essentially loosens these knots, allowing improved blood flow to the chronically spasmodic areas. As a result, the areas begin to heal. As soon as the knots are relieved, there is often an immediate and remarkable reduction in pain, soreness and discomfort, as well as the beginning of long term relief. After a course of treatments, the muscles will heal themselves and the symptoms will be abated. The treatment is minimally invasive and quick. Improvement is usually noted after each visit.
