Vertigo is a common symptom presenting in chiropractic patients, especially after head and neck trauma. Vertigo can be a very disabling condition. It is a sense of dizziness or spinning, sometimes associated with symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and sweating. It can have many causes and in most cases it is a treatable condition. One of the more common causes of vertigo is from misaligned cervical vertebrae that can affect blood flow to the brain or may be irritating nerves that direct the blood flow to the brain. Vertigo can also be caused by an ear infection. Chiropractic adjustments help align the neck and remove irritation off the nerves that lead to the inner ear. As a result, the eustachian tubes are better able to clear, allowing the ears to drain. This can relieve the pressure on the balance structures in the inner ear and vertigo can be reduced.
